When it comes to adding collections to your Stacks site, individual collection items can either be manually created or imported via a .csv file. Manual creation can be a time consuming process and is typically used when adding smaller quantities of items.
To manually create a collection item:
- From the Dashboard, click Collections
- Find the Collection you want to add an item to by
- Browsing the list; or
- Searching for the collection by name
- Once found, under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click List Collection Items
- Click + Add Collection Item, complete the form in the window that opens
- Title - provide a unique name for the collection item
- Collection - select the Collection from the list
- Note: if you do not choose a collection from this drop-down list, the item will not be visible to end-users
- Featured - when checked, a link to the collection item will appear as a link on the Collection page in a Featured Items block and the Featured collection slider on the Collections list view
- Image - upload or select a previously uploaded image to be displayed alongside the collection item in the Collection list and detail views
- Note: if applicable, this image will also be displayed in the Featured Slider
- External Image Link - if you prefer to use an image that is hosted externally to be displayed alongside collection items in the collection list, the detail list, and featured slider, paste the image’s URL into the External Image Link field
- Links - each Collection item can have one or more links published, giving end-users multiple resources to refer to
- URL, enter the full link to the external website or resource
- Link Text, enter the text that will appear as a hyperlink end users will see and click on
- Click Add another item to add more links, additional URL and Link Text fields will appear below
- Description - use this to provide detailed information or content abstracts as it allows for a larger number of characters than other fields referenced in the collection item
- Buttons - these are similar to links however, instead of a hyperlink appearing, a button will appear that grabs the attention of end-users
- URL, enter the full link to the external website or resource
- Link Text, enter the text that will appear as the button's label
- Regular / Generic Fields - use these to describe the item itself
- For example, while each item should have a unique title; you can utilize up to 10 Generic or Regular fields for additional information
- Adjust the labels for Generic Field 1 through 10 by modifying the collection’s site labels
- Publication Date - if applicable enter a Publication date in the format of YYYY-MM-DD
- File Attachment - upload or select a previously uploaded file that is visible on the collection item end
- Note: users will be able to download this
- Filter Vocabulary Fields - filter vocabulary fields allow you to organize or categorize collection items in a very granular manner to help end-users narrow the number of collection items based on the filters chosen, each collection item can use up to 12 Filter Vocabulary fields
- Adjust the labels for Filter Vocabulary Fields 1 through 10 by modifying the collection’s site labels.
- Review the Publishing workflow settings and make any necessary changes.
- Click Save
