Editing and Deleting Custom Blocks

Editing custom blocks can mean various things depending on your needs, this could include:

  • Editing the content within the block
  • Editing, Hiding, or Displaying the block heading on the page its added to
  • Moving the block within the page its been added to
  • Removing the block from the landing page its been added to
  • Deleting the block

This article will explain where and how to perform these various edits and functions.

Editing Custom Block Content

Important! Users with the Contributor or Editor role can only edit the custom blocks they have created; whereas, users with the Moderator or Administrator role can edit or delete any custom block.

To edit the content of an existing custom block:

  1. From the Dashboard, click the Custom Blocks tile
  2. Find the block by
    1. Browsing the list; OR
    2. Searching the list by the block's title
  3. Once found, under the Operations column, click Edit
    1. Edit the Javascript and/or Body fields, also review and update any of the Publishing workflow options as needed
      1. For more information on modifying content within the body field, such as formatting text, hyperlinking text or images, adding or resizing images, and more, see the WYSIWYG Editor article 
    2. Click Save at the bottom of the page when finished

Editing, Showing, or Hiding the Heading and Helper Text

When adding a custom block to your homepage or any other landing page, you have the option to either show or hide the block's title as a heading on the page. If needed, you can also add helper text to provide guidance to your users/patrons on what the content is or how to interact with it. This section will explain how to edit this information. 

Important! Only users with the Administrator role have the ability to perform the functions described below.
  1. Navigate to the landing page where the block resides
  2. Click the Layout tab, just under the search bar and page header
  3. Scroll to the section where the custom block is located, when hovering over the custom block a Screenshot 2025-12-05 at 1.44.04 PM.png icon will appear in the top right, click this icon, then click then Configure 
  4. Heading, edit the heading as needed
    1. Note, by default, this field will populate with the title of the custom block from when it was created. Editing this value will not change the original title of the custom block, this only changes what is displayed as the block's heading on the landing page
  5. Helper Text, add or edit the helper text as needed
    1. Note, the visibility of the helper text is tied to the visibility of the heading, meaning if the heading is hidden, the helper text option will be as well
  6. Show/Hide the heading and helper text, click the Screenshot 2025-12-05 at 1.48.36 PM.png to the right of the header field to toggle the show/hide function of the heading and helper text
  7. Subheading, edit as needed
  8. Sub-Title URL, edit as needed
  9. Scroll down this configure window and click Update to save your changes
  10. If needed, repeat the steps above for any other content on the page, then scroll to the top of the page and click Save Layout

Moving or Removing a Custom Block

If you are changing the layout of your page, or the content displayed on the page itself, moving or removing a custom block may be needed. 

Moving a block within the page

Important! Only users with the Administrator role have the ability to perform this function.
  1. Navigate to the landing page where the block resides
  2. Click the Layout tab, just under the search bar and page header
  3. Scroll to the section where the block is located
  4. When hovering your mouse over the content, a 4-way arrow icon will appear. When you see this icon, you can click and drag the block to any other section on the page. 
  5. Once moved, scroll to the top of the page and click Save Layout to save your changes

Removing the block from the page

Tip! Removing a block does not delete the content, it only removes it from the current page. The removed block can be re-added to this or any other landing page at any time. Only Administrators have the ability to perform this function.
  1. Navigate to the landing page where the block resides
  2. Click the Layout tab, just under the search bar and page header
  3. Scroll to the section where the custom block is located, when hovering over the custom block a Screenshot 2025-12-05 at 1.44.04 PM.png icon will appear in the top right, click this icon, then click then Remove
    1. A confirmation window will appear, follow the prompts to remove the block as needed
  4. Once removed, scroll to the top of the page and click Save Layout to save your changes

Deleting a Custom Block

Important! Deleting a block is permanent and the content will not be recoverable. If you wish to keep the content but remove it from the page(s) where is has been added, follow the steps above to remove the block from the page. 
  1. From the Dashboard, click the Custom Blocks tile
  2. Find the block by
    1. Browsing the list; OR
    2. Searching the list by the block's title
  3. Under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click Delete
    1. A confirmation window will open
      1. Click Delete to continue with deletion of the callout
      2. Click Cancel to cancel the deletion and return to the list of custom blocks
