Editing or Deleting Research Guides, Tabs, and Blocks

Managing the content of your research guides can be a crucial step in managing your Stacks site. Users with the appropriate access can make a number of edits to research guides, including

• Editing the guide's name and filter vocabularies
• Links
• Tab names and order
• Guide block content 

Editing

Users with the Contributor or Editor role can edit the research guides they have created; whereas, users with the Moderator or Administrator role can edit any research guide.

Because of the multi-level structure to research guides, this section will break down how to edit a guide by

• Finding the Guide to Edit
• Editing the Research Guide (title and filter vocabularies)
• Editing the Research Guide Tabs
• Editing the Research Guide Blocks

Find the Guide to Edit

1. From the Dashboard, click the Research Guide tile
2. Locate the guide to edit by:
   1. Browsing the list; OR
   2. Searching the guide by name
3. Once found, under the Operations column, click Edit

Alternatively, you can navigate to the research guide on your Stacks site, when logged in as user with administrative access, you will see a series of tabs near the top of the page, click the Edit tab then follow the instructions below for making edits. 

Editing the Research Guide

1. Title, edit the title if needed
2. Type, update the filter vocabulary value if needed
3. Subject, update the filter vocabulary value if needed
4. Modify the publishing workflow as needed
5. Scroll down and click Save if these are the only changes being made, otherwise continue to the next sections for instructions on editing the Guide Tabs or Guide Blocks

Editing the Research Guide Tabs 

1. To Edit the tab name or URL alias
   1. Click the Edit button to the right of the tab's Title
      1. Title, edit this field as needed
      2. URL alias, edit this field as needed
2. To Add a new tab
   1. Scroll to and click Add Research Guide Tab
      1. Add a Title and URL alias if applicable
      2. Follow the steps described in the section below for add new or existing guide blocks
3. To Change the order of the tabs
   1. Click and drag the 4-way arrow icon to adjust the order
4. To Remove a tab
   1. Click the ellipsis icon to the right of the Edit button , then click Remove
5. Scroll down and click Save if these are the only changes being made, otherwise continue to the next sections for instructions on editing the Guide Blocks

Editing the Research Guide Blocks

1. To Edit the block's title or content
   1. Click Edit
      1. Title, edit the title as needed
      2. Body, edit the content as needed
   2. Click Update research guide block to save any changes 
      1. Edits to a guide block will affect all instances where the block has been used 
2. To Remove a guide block 
   1.  Click Remove
      1. Click Remove to confirm the removal
         1. Check the Delete this research guide block from the system box to also delete the block
      2. Click Cancel to cancel removing the block and keep it where it is 
3. To Add a new guide block 
   1.  Click Add new research guide block
      1. Title, add a title
      2. Body, add the content to the body field
   2. Click Create research guide block to save and add the block 
4. To Add an existing guide block 
   1. Click Add existing research guide block
      1. Search for the block by Title, when found click Add research guide block
5. To Change the order of blocks 
   1. Click and drag the 4-way arrow icon to adjust the order
6. Scroll down and click Save when you've finished making any of the changes described above 

Deleting

Only users with the Moderator or Administrator role can delete a research guide. 

1. From the Dashboard, click the Research Guide tile
2. Locate the guide to delete by:
   1. Browsing the list; OR
   2. Searching the guide by name
3. Once found, under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click Delete
   1. A confirmation window will appear
      1. Click Delete to continue; OR
      2. Click Cancel to cancel the deletion and return to the list of guides

Alternatively, you can navigate to the research guide on your Stacks site, when logged in as user with the appropriate administrative access, you will see a series of tabs near the top of the page, click the Delete tab then follow the confirmation prompts to delete the research guide.
