New files can be added in a few different places, including when creating new content such as callouts, news articles, and more. This article focuses on adding files from the Dashboard.
Before beginning to upload new files, you may want to consider creating media folder(s) to organize the content you will be adding.
To upload new files
- From the Dashboard, click Files
- Click +Add media
- Select the type of media that you will be uploading
- Note: while Private options exist for all media types, users/site visitors would not be able to see or access files uploaded as private
- In the window that opens, complete the fields
- Name - provide a name to easily locate or identify the file
- Add a New File - click Choose File, browse to the file on your device and select it
- A note for images, they can be cropped depending on the size of file that is being added or where it may be used, once the file has been selected, click the Crop Image drop-down
- Select the most appropriate aspect ratio, a box will appear over the image indicating how it will be displayed. If further cropping is required:
- Click and drag the edges of the box to further crop as needed
- Click and drag the box to reposition it over the area of the image to display, if the image cannot be fully displayed
- Click Reset Crop, to cancel any changes and return to the default image settings
- Select the most appropriate aspect ratio, a box will appear over the image indicating how it will be displayed. If further cropping is required:
- A note for images, they can be cropped depending on the size of file that is being added or where it may be used, once the file has been selected, click the Crop Image drop-down
- Description - this will appear as helper text when hovering over the file; provide a brief line of text to help end-users understand what the file is
- Media Folder - select an existing Media folder to have this file appear in; this gives you the ability to organize your files
- Language - select the language the file uses
- Published - when checked, the file will be publicly visible
- Review and adjust the Publishing Workflow settings as needed
- Click Save
