For those who use the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), we are currently migrating customers from the EDS Classic to the NEW EDS. A part of this migration can include updates to the Outbound Search option which allows users to search for content beyond the scope of Stacks.
Setting Up an EDS Outbound Search
To configure an outbound search, you will first need to navigate to the NEW EDS and perform a search, this will allow you to grab the URL and break it down into the appropriate fields.
- Navigate to the https://research.ebsco.com/ and log in
- Conduct a search for anything
- Copy and paste the URL into a document or notepad, it should resemble:
- https://research.ebsco.com/c/<your EDS ID>/search/results?q=<search term>
- Copy and paste the URL into a document or notepad, it should resemble:

Navigate to and log into Stacks as an administrator
- Click Dashboard, then the Integrations tile
- Click the Outbound search tile

From the Type drop-down, select Custom, then click Add
- Label, enter a label for the search, this will be seen later on

URL, copy and paste the URL from your search (above) up to and including '/results'
- Example: https://research.ebsco.com/c/<your EDS ID>/search/results
- Search Parameter, enter the search parameter 'q'
- Extra Parameters, this can be used for authentication or other parameters, typically found in the URL after the search results
- Fragment, Fragments are what typically follows a hashtag (#) towards the end of the URL, this may not be required
- Click Save
Once the outbound search has been configured, the next step is to enable the search option, to do this:
- From the Stacks Dashboard, click the Search Configuration tile
- Click the Settings tile
- Check the box beside the search name, this is the value from the Label field above
- To set this as the default search option, scroll down, from the Default Search on Form field, select the search name
