With the ratings feature, your users/patrons can have the ability to 'like' or 'dislike' individual collection items and search records. This allows you to gather potential feedback on collection items, as well as, allow for collections to be sorted by likes. This is an optional feature that must be enabled by administrators on a collection by collection basis.
Enabling the Ratings
To enable ratings:
- From the Dashboard, click the System Configuration tile
- Click the Ratings tile, then click the Settings tile
- Likes/Dislikes
- Enable for
- Content
- Collection item, check this box to enable ratings for collection items
- Content
- Enable for
- Options
- Likes
- Enable, check this box to enable the like option
- Display totals, check this box to display the like totals
- Tip! By default this box is hidden until the Enable box is checked; also by default, this box is checked, uncheck to disable the total feature
- Dislikes
- Enable, check this box to enable the dislike option
- Tip! By default this box is hidden until the Enable box is checked; also by default, this box is checked, uncheck to disable the total feature
- Likes
- Click Save Configuration at the bottom of the page
Additional Configuration for Collections
- Navigate back to the Dashboard, then click the Collections tile
- Find the collection to enable the ratings feature for, by
- Browsing the list; OR
- Searching the list by the collection's name
- Once found, under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then Settings
- Scroll to the bottom of the page, under the Ratings section, click Enable Lisks/Dislikes for <collection name>
- Click Save Configuration at the bottom of the page
Liking/Disliking Items and Searches
For collections where the Ratings feature has been enabled, all users/patrons (whether logged into Stacks or not) will see a Like and/or Dislike icon below the item(s).
To like or dislike an item
- Ensure you are logged into Stacks with a Patron or user account
- From the collection item's detail view, click the like or dislike icon as needed
- Clicking the icon a second time will disable the selection
Managing Collection Items Ratings
Once the Ratings feature has been enabled and used by your users, administrators can view and manage the ratings for individual collection items, as well as set a default sort order based on ratings for the collection.
To manage ratings:
- From the Dashboard, click the Collections tile
- Find the collection to manage ratings for by
- Browsing the list; OR
- Searching for the collection by name
- Once found, under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click List Collection Items
- Like/Dislike columns will appear in the list view; click the column headings to sort the list by liked or disliked if needed
- View who liked/disliked items
- Under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click List Ratings
- Clear all likes/dislikes
- Under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click Clear Ratings
Sort Order Based on Likes
To set a default sort order based on ratings:
- From the Dashboard, click the Collections tile
- Find the collection to set the sort order for by:
- Browsing the list; OR
- Searching for the collection by title
- Once found, under the Operations column, click the drop-down arrow, then click Settings
- Scroll to the Defaults section
- In the Default Sort Field, select the preferred sort order option, noting:
- Title, select this option to sort by collection item title
- Rating Count, select this option to sort by the total number of likes and dislikes
- Rating Top, Select this option to sort by the total number of likes
- Rating Best, select this option to sort by the number of likes minus the number of dislikes
- Click Save Configuration at the bottom of the page
