With IP whitelisting you have the ability to control who can access to your Stacks site’s content by checking whether the patron/user's IP address falls within your listed range(s).
Stacks allows you to identify both single IP addresses as well as IP address ranges to authenticate patrons/users without the need to login with the traditional username and password. The flexibility of whitelisting allows you to:
- Define access to specific pages or content on your site that may be licensed, sensitive, or needs protection from general public access
- Set site-wide protection by allowing whitelisted IP addresses access to your Stacks site, when used with our site-wide password protection feature
If a patron/user tries to access the site, or the protected content on your site, from a device that is not within the IP whitelist range(s) they may see a couple of options:
- Stacks login screen, here they can use their patron or staff login to access the site/content, if they have an active account
- Have the option to self-register for a new Patron account, if self-registration is enabled
